Nine militants killed in Gazipur raids: Minister

Gazipur: Nine suspected militants were killed during law enforncers agencies’ two raids in Gazipur on Saturday.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal came up with the latest information at a press briefing at Noagaon area of Harinal in Gazipur at about 4:15pm.
The minister said, ‘Two militants were killed during Rapid Action Battalion’s (RAB) raid on a lemon garden at Harinal in the morning. Another seven militants, including neo JMB chief Akash, were killed during Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit’s raid on another house which is one kilometers away from that area.’
Two other suspected militants were killed as law enforcers raided an alleged hideout of militants in the village of Kagmara of Tangail municipality area, said the Tangail RAB-12 Commander Mohiuddin Faruque.
Identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
Being tip-off that a gang of militants is staying at the house, a joint team of RAB and police conducted a drive there at about 11:00pm, said the superintendent of Tangail police Mahbub Alam.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers around their house, the militants opened fire at them.
As the law enforcers retaliated, it triggered a gunfight, leaving two militants dead and two others injured.
Earlier in the morning, Gazipur police Officer-in-charge Rezaul Karim said the members of CTTC unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police conducted an operation in a suspected den in Harinal area of Gazipur.
Meanwhile, a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit launched another operation at a two-storey building in Patartek area of Gazipur at about 10:00am following information that it was a den of militants.
Local people informed that four militants used to live in the house, said superintendent of Gazipur police Harun-or-Rashid.
