President urges people to preserve communal harmony
Dhaka: Mentioning that the sense of unity, secularism and communal harmony is the tradition of the people of Bangladesh, President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday urged all to play their due role in national development from their respective positions maintaining the communal harmony.
‘Puja and other festivals are derived from the depth of the tradition and culture of the Bengal. So, no festival is limited to the circle of religion,’ he said while talking to media people during a reception at Bangabhaban.
The President hosted the reception for the members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Durga Puja.
Abdul Hamid and his wife Rashida Khanom also exchanged greetings with the guests.
Abdul Hamid said religions belong to communities but festivals to all.
‘The main message of all religions is human welfare.’
Hindu religious personalities and leaders of various puja committees joined the reception.
Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matior Rahman and Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla were also present.
Distinguished personalities of the Hindu Community also joined the reception.
