3 fishermen jailed, huge current net seized in 2 dists
Dhaka: A mobile court in Dhaka on Friday sentenced three fishermen and fined another one in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari for catching hilsa defying the ban.
Another mobile court seized 3,000 metres of current net from the Padma River at Bagha upazila in Rajshahi, reports UNB.
In Rajbari, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Goalanda Pankaj Ghosh conducted the drive in the Padma River and arrested three fishermen for catching hilsa and another for carrying the national delicious fish illegally.
Later, the UNO sentenced Bachchu Sardar, 30, Mostafa Sardar, 40, and Farid Chowdhury, 28, to one year’s imprisonment and fined another fisherman Hiro Sheikh, 30, Tk 5,000 for carrying hilsa fish.
The mobile court also destroyed 5,000 metres of current net on the spot, the UNO added.
In Rajshahi, a mobile court, led by UNO Hamidul Islam of Bagha, conducted a drive in the Padma River and seized 3,000 metres of current net worth Tk 30,000.
Later, the mobile court destroyed the current net.
