A 53-year-old beggar had to carry his wife’s corpse in a pushcart for 60 kilometres, as he could not arrange the money for an ambulance.

According to an NDTV report, the man Ramulu’s wife Kavitha died of leprosy on last Friday near Lingampally railway station at Hyderabad in India. With no money for an ambulance, Ramulu had to carry his deceased wife’s dead body in a pushcart to his village.

Ramulu left Hyderabad on Friday morning but lost his way during the night. He reached Vikarabad on Saturday afternoon after walking for about 60 kilometres, reports The Huffington Post.

‘Unable to move any further and his spirit crushed, Ramulu broke down and begged for money from passersby, when some locals alerted the police and pooled in money for an ambulance.

‘After his wife’s death, he decided to conduct her last rites in his native village and asked some local private carriers for shifting her body, who asked him for Rs 5,000,’ Vikarabad Town Circle Inspector G. Ravi told NDTV. ‘As he did not have any money with him to hire any vehicle, Ramulu put Kavitha’s body on a pushcart and walked all along till Vikarabad and reached here last afternoon.’

The incident comes a few months after a man in Odisha was forced to carry his wife’s dead body for miles. Dana Majhi, a resident of Kalahandi district in Odisha, carried his deceased wife’s body on his shoulders and walked for 10 km, as he could not afford an ambulance.
