Dhaka: The DNA sample of Gulshan café attack mastermind Tamim Chowdhury, who was killed during a special police operation in Narayanganj, has matched with that of his family members living in Canada.

‘It was, in fact, Tamim Chowdhury as his DNA sample matched with that of his family members. The DNA test was carried out in Canada,’ deputy commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman told UNB on Tuesday.

Tamim’s DNA sample was sent to a laboratory in Canada last month for legally identifying his body.

The Canada authorities have got the DNA samples of Tamim with that of his father Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury and his sister during the test and they later sent the test report to the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of DMP, Masud added.

On August 27, three militants, including Gulshan café attack mastermind Tamim Chowdhury, were killed during a special police operation, 'Hit Strom', at a den of 'New JMB' in a building of Narayanganj sadar upazila.

Earlier, the DMP had announced a bounty of Tk 20 lakh for information leading to the arrest of Tamim Chowdhury, a Bangladeshi-origin Canadian citizen.
