Dhaka: A court in Dhaka on Sunday issued warrants for the arrest of 22 BNP leaders, including Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and Barkatullah Bulu, in a case filed under the Special Powers Act.

Judge Quamrul Hossain Mollah of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's court passed the order after taking the case into cognisance, said additional prosecutor Tapash Kumar Pal.

The court also asked police to submit a report about their arrest by January 27, reports UNB.

Besides, the court rejected the bail petition of BNP's Dhaka city unit member secretary Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, now in jail, in the case.

According to the prosecution, miscreants set a pick-up van afire during the hartal and blockade programme enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance on 12 February 2015.

Maminul Islam, sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station, filed a case against the BNP leaders under the Special Powers Act.

Sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam submitted chargesheet against 30 people on 30 April 2015.
