Road crashes kill seven in three districts
Dhaka: Seven people were killed and 12 others injured in road accidents in Cox's Bazar, Gopalganj and Chapainawabganj on Friday.
In Cox's Bazar, four people, including two women, were killed and 10 others injured as a bus crashed into a utility vehicle on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar Highway in Chakaria upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased were Mohammad Kalu, 42, son of Maktul Hossain of Tajiakata village in Moheshkhali upazila, and his daughter Rina Akhter, 19, and Kala Khatun, 50, wife of Jabur Ahmed of the same area, and Ali Riaz Raihan Khan, 23, son of Ilias Khan of Nijpankhali village of the upazila.
In-charge of Malumghat Highway Police Camp M Ashikur Rahman said the accident occurred when a Cox's Bazar-bound bus from Chittagong hit the human-hauler (Mahindra) from the opposite direction on the road at Segunbagan near a Bangladesh Army camp, leaving two human haulers passengers Kalu and Ilias dead on the spot and 12 others injured.
The injured were taken to Malumghat Memorial Christian Hospital where doctors declared Rina and Kala declared dead, said the OC.
In Gopalganj, a Gopalganj town- bound bus hit a human-hauler from the opposite direction on Gopalganj-Kotalipara road at Tarashi bus stand in the town in the evening, leaving two human-hauler passengers, also construction workers, dead on the spot and two others injured.
The victims were Imran Hossain Hauladar, 28, son of Souro Uddin Hauladar of Koira village in Kotalipara upazila, and Jakir Hossain Hawladar alias Helal, 45, son of Rajjab Ali Hawladar of the same village.
The accident occurred when the four construction workers in the human-hauler (Nasiman) were going to Kotalipara on completion of their works, said officer-in-charge of Kotalipara Police Station M Kamrul Faruk.
The injured were admitted to Kotalipara Health Complex, he said.
In Chapainawabganj, a madrasha student, Bayejid, 13, son of Abu Bakar of Ghatpara in the district town, suffered injuries as a speeding truck ran over him at Nayagola in the town at about 11:30am, said sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station Gaffar Hossain.
Later, Bayejid died on the way to Sadar Hospital, the SI added.
Meanwhile, police detained truck driver Azizul and seized the vehicle.
