Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Monday sent Deputy Secretary of the Roads and Highways Department Mizanur Rahman, who was caught red-handed while taking bribe, to jail in a case filed over the incident.

Metropolitan Magistrate Satya Broto Sikdar passed the order after assistant director of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) M Moniruzzaman, also investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court, said M Obaidul Islam, general registration officer of the court.

The court also rejected the bail plea filed by Mizanur's lawyer Qazi Najib Ullah Hiru.

Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjo, deputy director (Public Relations) of the ACC, said a team of the anti-graft watchdog, led by director Nasim Anwar, conducted a drive at a restaurant in city's Khilgaon area around 9pm on Sunday over a complaint by lease holder Mainuddin Chowdhury and arrested Mizanur while taking Tk 50,000 as bribe.

Mainuddin also alleged that he gave Tk 1.09 lakh to Mizanur, though the officer later demanded Tk nine lakh more as bribe for the same work.
