Dhaka: The newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and his four deputies will take oath on Wednesday afternoon.

They will be sworn in at the Supreme Court Judges’ Lounge at about 3:00pm.

Chief Justice Surendra Kumnmar Sinha will administrate the oath.

Soon after being sworn in, CEC KM Nurul Huda and the election commissioners will also hold a press conference at about 5:00pm at the Election Commission Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargaon area, said Director (PR) at the EC Secretariat SM Asaduzzaman on Tuesday.

Earlier, on 6 February, President Abdul Hamid reconstituted the five‐member Election Commission (EC) making former secretary KM Nurul Huda the CEC, as the tenure of the Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad‐led Commission expired.

The four election commissioners are former additional secretary Mahbub Talukder, former secretary Md Rafiqul Islam, former district and sessions judge Kabita Khanam and Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury.

The new Election Commission will conduct the next general election scheduled for January, 2019.
