President asks EC to ensure fair, transparent polls
Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid on Monday urged the newly constituted Election Commission (EC) to perform its duty taking assistance from all the political parties and other stockholders concerned to hold elections in a free, fair and credible manner.
‘Election is the integral part of democratic process . . . All-out cooperation from all political parties and general people is a must to hold elections in a free, fair and transparent manner across the country,’ Hamid said when newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and other election commissioners met him at Bangabhaban in the afternoon, reports UNB.
President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
Welcoming the new EC, the President hoped that it, led by CEC KM Nurul Huda, will be able to perform their duty with confidence.
Nurul Huda said the Election Commission will try its best to perform the constitutional duty bestowed upon them sincerely and transparently.
He sought all-out cooperation of the President to properly discharge their duty.
The CEC expressed is resolve that they will perform their duties and responsibilities to gain people’s confidence.
Four election commissioners — Mahbub Talukder, Md Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury — and EC Secretary Mohammad Abdullah were, among others, present at the meeting.
