Chittagong: Customs intelligence officials arrested a man carrying 15 gold bars, weighing 1.45 kg, at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong on Tuesday.

The arrestee is Shahadat Hossain, in his twenties, of Anwara upazila of the district.

Revenue officer of Customs Intelligence Morshed Ali Chowdhury said Shahadat came here by a flight of ‘Flydubai’ that landed at the airport at about 10:30am. The customs officials challenged Shahadat due to his suspicious movement and found existence of gold bars in his stomach through scanning.

Later, the customs officials recovered 15 gold bars and arrested him.

Besides, the customs intelligence officials recovered four gold bars, weighing 457 grams, from a passenger named Bashar, who came here from Muscat in the morning.

The customs intelligence officials freed him after taking the gold bars and a case was filed against him.
