Education secretary among 6 face contempt rule
Dhaka: The High Court on Tuesday issued a contempt of court rule against six people, including education secretary Sohrab Hossain, for not electing the governing body of Viqarunnisa Noon School & College as per its directives.
The bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das asked them to explain why action should not be taken against them for not complying with the court order.
The other respondents are Principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School & College Sufia Khatun, ad hoc committee chairman Nazmul Haq Khan, Enamul Haq Abul, Oparesh Chandra Saha and Dhaka Education Board Chairman Mahbubur Rahman.
Eunus Ali Akond, a Supreme Court lawyer, said the High Court on June 1, 2016 asked the authorities concerned to arrange the governing body election after forming an ad hoc committee within six months.
But no voter list has yet been prepared while no schedule has been fixed for the governing body election and the duration of the ad hoc committee expired on Monday last, which is a violation of the HC order, he said.
On January 30 last, a petition of contempt of court was filed with the bench court.
