3 get life term for killing teenage boy in Sherpur

Sherpur: A Sherpur court on Thursday convicted three people and sentenced them to life term rigorous imprisonment for killing a teenage boy in Sadar upazila in 2011.
The lifers are—Nur Hossain, 16, son of Abbas Ali of Gilagaccha village in Jhenaigati upazila, Sanwar Hossain alias Mannan, 15, son of Abdur Rashid, and Bishu, 19, son of late Shahadat, residents of Sheripara area of Sadar upazila.
The court also fined them TK 10,000 each, in default they will have to serve six months more rigorous imprisonment.
According to prosecution, the three teenage boys worked in a local restaurant and were involved in theft. Nur stole a mobile phone on May 23, 2011 and sold it. After watching the incident, another worker of the restaurant, Billal Hossain, son of Makbul Hossain, demanded share of money.
On May 24, Nur along with two others took Billal to the Mrighi River and tortured him to death.
Later, they dumped the body into the river. Local fishermen spotted the body the next day.
Abdullah Al Mamun, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station filed two separate cases against the three boys.
The three accused gave confession statement under section 164.
Md Mostafizur Rahman, sub-inspector of the police station, submitted a chargesheet on August 31, 2011.
After examining all the records and 10 witnesses, additional district and session judge Mohammad Mosleh Uddin handed down the verdict.
