Dhaka: Bangladesh government is thinking to block social networking site Facebook for around six hours after midnight for the benefit of students and young people.

The cabinet division, mentioning Facebook is ‘affecting the students’ and ‘reducing the working abilities of youth’, sent a letter to Posts and Telecommunication Division asking for its opinion in this regard.

Ministry Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology senior information officer Enayet Hossain said the cabinet division sought Post and Telecommunication division’s view on blocking Facebook from 12:00midnight to 6:00am.

He said government is also thinking over the possible actions to take out the young generation for the addiction of Facebook.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology will share their opinions after reviewing the issue, said Enayet Hossain.

The cabinet division will take decision after receiving the views from BTRC and posts, telecommunication and information technology ministry.
