Bomb disposal at Atia Mahal forced to go slow
Sylhet: Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Benazir Ahmed on Saturday said alleged militants' den Atia Mahal at Shibbari in Sylhet, will be handed over to police very soon after defusing all explosives.
The Rab boss came up with the remark while talking to journalists in the afternoon while visiting Atia Mahal to watch the bomb-disposal unit's operation.
The joint unit of Rab, comprising the dog squad and bomb disposal unit, managed to clear three floors of the five-storey building in the first five days of the operation, disposong nine improvised explosive devices (IED), he added.
The Rab unit also recovered some bomb-making materials and chemical substances, said Benazir, adding the militants also installed several series bombs in the staircases through wire.
"For these reasons, the Rab unit has been conducting the operation slowly and cautiously. Once the full building will be made clear, it will be handed over to Sylhet Metropolitan Police," he said.
Replying to a query, Benazir said the identities of the slain militants will be found after the investigation.
Earlier in the day, the Rab DG visited the injured persons at Syleht Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Ten people, including four militants and two police officials, were killed and at least 40 people were injured in three incidents, including a bomb blast near Atia Mahal, during the 83-hour Operation Twilight from March 24 to March 28.
