Dhaka: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will sit in a meeting with her party’s standing committee members on Monday night to discuss the country’s latest political situation and the Prime Minister’s current India visit, and work out the party’s next course of action.

The meeting will be held at the BNP chief’s Gulshan office around 9:00pm, said her media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

Contacted, a BNP standing committee member said the meeting will mainly discuss the deals Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina signed with India on Saturday.

He said they will also decide at the meeting whether BNP will announce any action programme against the defence MoUs signed with the neighbouring country.

Besides, the BNP leader said, they will talk about a wide range of issues, including the country’s law and order and human right situation and the party’s organisational activities.

Bangladesh and India on Saturday signed 36 bilateral documents, covering diverse areas of cooperation, including economic defence cooperation, power and peaceful use of nuclear energy, after official talks between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

BNP leaders are opposing the MoUs signed by the two countries, saying it will put the country’s independence and sovereignty at stake.
