Suspended AL leader sued on graft charge
Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday filed a case against a suspended district unit Awami League for allegedly accumulating wealth illegally.
ACC deputy director Sheikh Abdus Salam filed the case against Mokarram Miah Babu with the city's Ramna Model Police Station, ACC spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
According to the case statement, Mokarram acquired wealth worth Tk 2.86 crore illegally and concealed information of his wealth about Tk 55 lakh to the national anti-graft agency.
Mokarram was the relief and social welfare secretary of Faridpur district Awami League and was suspended from the party two years ago.
In April 2015, the Commission received an allegation that he amassed a huge amount of wealth through extortion and abuse of power. Later, the ACC launched a probe into the allegation.
