2 Sundarbans robber gangs surrender

Patuakhali: Twenty five members of two robber gangs -- Alif Bahini and Kabiraj Bahini -- surrendered to Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in presence of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan in the district town on Saturday.

Nineteen members of Alif Bahini, including its chief Alif alias Doyal, and six members of Kabiraj Bahini, including its head Yunus Ali Mollah alias Kabiraj, along with 31 various firearms and 1110 rounds of ammunition surrendered to the elite force at Shilpakala Academy auditorium at noon.

They hail from different areas of Satkhira and Bagerhat districts.

Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Benazir Ahmed, Rab-8 commanding officer Lt Col M Anwar-uz-zaman and high officials of the local administration, among others, were present on the occasion.

The Minister also distributed cash Tk 20,000 and clothes among the family members of the pirates of 'Chhoto Raju Bahini', who are now in jail after surrender.
