Mosque imam hacked dead in Narayanganj

A mosque imam was chopped to death by miscreants inside the mosque at Gabindapur-Majhipara village in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj on Friday night.
The victim was identified as Abdul Aziz Munshi, 72, hailing from Magurpur of Tangail district, reports UNB.
Quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Rupganj Police Station Ismail Hossain said a group of miscreants stormed into the mosque and chopped Aziz with lethal weapons while he was saying Isha prayer along with some other devotees, leaving him injured critically.
The attackers also injured Habibur Rahman, a Musalli, by hacking him with sharp weapons as he protested the assault.
They were taken to Rupganj Upazila Health Complex where physicians declared Aziz dead, said the OC.
Some locals alleged that a man, Jahirul Islam, might have been involved in the killing mission.
