Dhaka: Authorities of Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar airports suspended all the flight operations as cyclone ‘Mora’ is moving towards Bangladesh’s coastal areas.

All the flight operations at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong were suspended from 6:00am to 2:00pm, said airport manager wing commander Mohammad Reazul Kabir on Monday night.

‘No scheduled flight was operated from the airport after 11:00pm,’ he added.

Meanwhile, Cox’s Bazar Airport manager Sadhan Kumar Mohanta told UNB that all the flight operations at the airport were also suspended from 11:00pm Monday to 2:00 pm Tuesday.

The maritime ports of Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar, and five coastal districts have been advised to hoist great danger signal No 10.

The severe cyclonic storm ‘Mora’ over the North Bay and adjoining east central bay may cross the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar coast by Tuesday morning, causing a storm surge of 4-5 feet height above normal astronomical tide, according to the latest Met office bulletin.

Meanwhile, the district administration has taken all the necessary preparations to minimise possible casualties and damages from cyclone ‘Mora’.

It has asked the residents of all coastal upazilas to take shelter in nearby cyclone shelters or safe places.
