ACC launches probe against DB inspector
Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched a probe against Md Jahidur Rahman, an inspector (DB, Uttar) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), for allegedly accumulating illegal wealth.
The Commission at a recent meeting decided to initiate the probe against the police inspector of Detective Branch (DB) after receiving some specific graft allegations, ACC spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
On April 16, 2017, the ACC received an allegation against Jahidur from a resident of the city's Mirpur area. Besides, another allegation was submitted to the Police Headquarters against him, sending a copy to the ACC.
According to the allegations received by the ACC, inspector Jahidur has long been working with the car stealing prevention team of the Detective Branch (DB). Earlier, he worked at Dhanmondi Police Station as second officer. During his stay in DB and Dhanmondi Police Station, he acquired a huge amount of illegal wealth by selling seized cars and motorcycles.
Jahidul built a seven-storey building at city's Hazaribagh area spending about Tk 3 crore, and is now using a Toyata private car and two expensive Yamaha motorcycles, the allegations say.
There is also an allegation that he constructed his building without Rajuk approval.
The wealth the police inspector earned is contradictory to his sources of income, according to ACC officials.
ACC deputy director KM Meshbah Uddin has been appointed as an inquiry officer to carry out the probe into the allegations brought against Jahidul.
