Dwellers of 40 villages in Chandpur district will celebrate holy Eid-ul-Fitre, the biggest festival of the Muslims, on Sunday amid much enthusiasm and religious fervour.

The villagers of Hajiganj, Faridganj, Matlab South and Kachua upazilas will celebrate the Eid on the same day as Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries of the Middle East.

Main congregation of the eid-ul-fitre will be held at Shadra Senior Madrasa premises in Shadra village under Hajiganj upazila at 10:00am, said Maulana Abu Jofar M Abdul Hye, former principal of the madrasa and eldest son of late Maulana Ishaque, who introduced this practice in 1931.

Alhaj Maulana Mohammad Arif Chowdhury is expected to conduct the congregation.

He further said devotees of these villages began fasting on the same date with the people of Saudi Arabia.
