Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday sought cooperation from people in turning Bangladesh into a developed and prosperous country.

‘We want cooperation from all...we want to make the country free from hunger and poverty and make it a prosperous one as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,’ she said.

The Prime Minister was talking to the media after exchanging Eid greetings with a cross-section of people, party leaders and workers and professionals at her official residence Ganabhaban, reports UNB.

She also said her government wants to bring the joy of Eid to each and every home of the country. ‘And to make that happen, the government has ensured food security, medicare facilities and education, and is trying to give people a beautiful life by providing them with homes.

To make the country economically stronger and create jobs, the government is setting up 100 economic zones across the country, she told journalists.

Hasina hoped that the living standard of people will improve further in the coming days. ‘Bangladesh is marching towards progress...it’s now a role model of development in the world.’

She also mentioned that Bangladesh regained the dignity it had lost after the assassination of Bangabandhu on August 15, 1975. ‘Now the government wants to materialise Bangabandhu’s dreams.’

About the peaceful celebrations of this year’s Eid, she said every Eid cogeneration was held peacefully and without any problem, and thanked the law enforcement and intelligent agencies for their all-out vigilance.

‘People in their every neighbourhood were on alert and careful as well so that the Eid could pass peacefully. That’s why

there has been no single untoward incident,’ the Prime Minister said.

On the occasion, the big lawn of Gonobhaban was tastefully decorated. Its gate was opened for visitors at 9.30 am as people from all walks of life started coming after their Eid prayers and waited in a long queue to meet the Prime Minister.

At the beginning, Awami League senior leaders and cabinet members greeted the Prime Minister by presenting her with bouquets.

Leaders of different political parties, parliament members, freedom fighters, leaders of associate bodies of Awami League, different professional and trade bodies as well as cross-section of people, including the destitute, exchanged Eid greetings with the Prime Minister.

As in previous years, some visitors took the programme as an opportunity to draw attention of the Prime Minister to their woes and sufferings, and sought her intervention and support to resolve those.

Later, the Prime Minister exchanged Eid greetings with judges of the Supreme Court, senior civil and military officials and envoys of different friendly countries.
