Decision on section 57 in mid-August: Law Minister

Dhaka: Law Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday said the decision on section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act will be finalised in mid-August.
"We had an elaborate discussion on the 'Digital Security Act' and a draft was made after taking opinions from others and the draft will be finalised in August. No decision was taken today whether the section 57 of the ICT Act will be removed or not," he said.
The Law Minister came up with the information while talking to reporters after an inter-ministerial meeting at the Secretariat.
"If any crime takes place then cases will be filed under section 57 of the ICT until the section is abolished. We'll take steps so that no journalist is punished and harassed for the act," he said.
State Minister for Posts and Communications Tarana Halim, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, secretary to Public Safety division under the Home Ministry Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed, and secretary to Legislative & Parliamentary Affairs Division under Law Ministry Shahidul Haque and high official concerned were, among others, present at the meeting.
