5 detained on charges of killing woman after rape

Dhaka: Police arrested five people from different parts of the capital, Savar and Fatulla of Narayanganj on Wednesday night in two cases filed with Kadamtoli Police Station for killing two women after rape.
The arrestees are Jamal Khan Patwari, in his twenties, Rajib Hawladar, around 22 years, Zakir Shikder, Rafiqul Islam Shamim and Mofiz Uddin Sagar.
Among the accused, Jamal and Rajib were the accused in the murder case of Parul, who was found dead at her house in Nama Shyampur area of the city on 18 June, said Farid Uddin Ahmed, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) (Wari division), while briefing journalists at DMP media centre.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted simultaneous drives in Demra, Fatullah and Savar areas and arrested the duo for their alleged involvement in the case, he said.
During interrogation, the accused said Rajib had an extramarital affair with Parul, wife of Liton. On 18 June, Rajib along with Jamal went to the residence of Parul in absence of her husband. Later, they made her unconscious offering drink mixed with slipping pills. They then violated her in turn and strangled her to death,’ said Farid Uddin.
Nayan, victim’s brother, then filed a case with Kadamtoli Police Station.
Besides, the three other arrestees—Zakir, Shamim and Mofiz—were accused in the murder case of Farida who also found dead at her residence.
Police conducted a drive in the city’s Shyampur, Juraine and Jatrabari areas and arrested them in connection with the murder case.
