Bogra: The accused in the two cases filed in connection with the rape of a female student and assault on the girl and her mother reportedly confessed to their part in the incident.

Inspector (Operation) Abul Kalam Azad of Sadar Police Station, also the investigation officer of the cases, said every male accused admitted their crime during the remand while the female ones before the court.

Police sources said Sramik League leader Tufan Sarkar, the prime accused in the case, narrated the whole episode to police.

Meanwhile, Jiban, the barber who shaved the heads of the victim and her mother, said Tufan and his gang members forcibly took him to the councillor's office and asked him to do so.

As Jiban did not agree to follow the order, councillor Marzia Hasan Rumki and her associates beat him up with steal pipes, the barber said while giving statement during the remand.

He also said he was not even paid for shaving the two heads.

Meanwhile, Jubo League central committee suspended Tufan's elder brother Abdul Matin from Bogra district town unit of the youth wing of ruling Awami League.

Matin, who was the joint secretary of the town unit, has been suspended, said Bogra district unit Jubo League general secretary Aminul Islam Dablu.

On the other hand, the victim and her mother gave statements before the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shyam Sundar Roy on Tuesday afternoon.

After recording the statements, the court ordered the police to ensure their security.

The medical test of the victim was completed on Monday.

On July 17, Tufan took the girl to his house at Badurtala in the district town promising to arrange her admission into a local college and raped her there

When Tufan's wife Asha and her elder sister Rumki came to know the incident, they along with some associates picked up the girl and her mother from their house.

They allegedly beat the girl and her mother with sticks and got cut down the hair of their heads. At one stage, the offenders got their heads shaved done by a barber.

Later, two cases were filed against 10 accused, including Tufan, his wife and Rumki, in this connection.

Police have so far arrested eight accused in the two cases. They also detained the barber and the father-in-law of Tufan for interrogation.

The incident sparked off a huge outcry across the country.
