Dhaka: The first namaz-e-janaza of legendary actor Razzak, popularly known as Nayak Raj Razzak, was held at the premises of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) on Tuesday morning.

The body of Razzak was taken to FDC premises at 11:10am and his first namaz-e- janaza was held at 11:35am.

His body was kept there till 12:10pm to pay last tributes to him.

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu and secretary of the ministry paid their tributes to the iconic actor at the FDC in the morning while a lot of artistes, his co-workers and fans from across the country paid their respects with teary eyes.

Inu said that his death is a great loss of film industry. He was the man who heightened our film industry in the 60s. He had worked to revive the name and fame of Bangla films since death.

‘The government will preserve the every work of the legend for the next generation as it is our valuable assets. His contribution to Bangla films will be remembered all the times,’ Inu added.

Popular actress Babita said Razzak is an institution for our film industry. He was unique as friend, philosopher and film star. He is everywhere at the FDC.

President of Bangladesh Cholochitro Shilpi Samity Misha Saudagar said that he was our living inspiration. His long term acting career is our lesson.

‘We have lost a father, guardian. We will not get an actor like him in a hundred years,’ said actor Rubel.

Superstar Shakib Khan, actress Shuchanda were, among others, present in the tribute paying ceremony.

From there, the body is now being taken to Central Shaheed Minar where people from all walks of life will pay their last tributes.

His 2 namaz-e-janaza will be held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan.

The actor was taken to United Hospital around 5:30 pm on Monday after he suffered a cardiac arrest where doctors declared him dead around 6:13 pm as they found no pulse, said hospital’s duty manager Sabbir Ahmed.

Razzak, the founding president of Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association, was born on January 23 in 1942 at Nagtala in Taliganj of Kolkata.

During his adolescence, he participated in theatre productions in Kolkata. While studying at a college in Kolkata, he made his first film appearance in ‘Ratan Lal Bangali’.

Hoping to be a film star, Razzak went to study film in Filmalaya in Mumbai, India in 1961. Returning from Mumbai, he performed in two movies in Kolkata –‘Pankotilak’ and ‘Shilalipi’.

He, however, moved to Dhaka along with his family in 1964. In Dhaka, he acted in TV plays initially.

Pioneering filmmaker Abdul Jabbar Khan helped Razzak join Iqbal Films Limited. Razzak was an assistant to director Kamal Ahmed in the movie ‘Ujala’.

Razzak’s major breakthrough came with his performance in movie of Salahuddin’s ‘Tero Nombor Feku Ostagar Lane’. He acted in other movies like Neel Akasher Nichey, Maynamati, Moner Moto Bou, Swaralipi, Osru Diye Likha, Jibon Theke Neya and Obujh Mon.
