Defamation on Bangabandhu: Bail rejected for 13 teachers

Chittagong: A court here on Wednesday sent some 13 teachers of secondary schools in different upazilas of the district to jail after rejecting their bail petitions in a sedition case filed with Banshkhali Police Station in this year.
Senior Judicial Magistrate of Banshkhali, Mohammad Sazzad Hossain passed the order after rejecting their bail petition.
Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station, confirmed the incident.
According to the court the accused compared the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with the chairman of a local union parishad in the question paper of a class eight interim exam of those schools.
The conscious people of the area noticed the matter first and protested it on social networking sites and local media before they informed the matter to upazila administration.
Later the UNO of the upazila held the question originator Dukul Barua, a teacher of Banshkhali Bangabandhu High School and handed him over to the police.
Later a case was filed accusing Dukul Barua and the presidents and general secretaries of Secondary School Teacher Samity of six upazilas of South Chittagong after the approval of Home Ministry.
After filing of the case the accused teachers took advance bail of three months from the Appellate Divisions of Supreme Court.
On Wednesday the validity of the bail expired and they filed another bail petition in lower court.
After the hearing Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Sazzad Hossain sent them to jail rejecting the bail.
