Dhaka: BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Saturday alleged that the government is resorting to ‘evil designs’ to hush up the Rohingya issue.

‘The comments of the ruling party general secretary (over Rohingya issue) are very unfortunate. The entire world is witnessing how the Myanmar government has been carrying out state-sponsored terrorism to eliminate Rohingyas. We only reflected the views of the county’s people yesterday (Friday) through forming the human chain. There’s no question of any dirty politics in it,’ he said.

Talking to reporters on the premises of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave, the BNP leader further said, ‘Rather, the government is resorting to various evil tactics like Myanmar regime to cover up the Rohingya issue which people’s don’t like at all.’

Earlier, leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal paid homage to Zia by placing wreaths, led by Mosharraf, at his grave, marking the BNP’s women wing’s 39th founding anniversary.

Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, said the government is not presenting the true scenario of the Rohingya crisis before people.

At a programme in Munshiganj on Friday, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader accused BNP of playing a foul game over Rohingya issue.

Narrating the brutal repression on Rohingyas, the BNP leader said the Myanmar authorities are carrying out terrorism and brutal persecution to eradicate Rohingyas from the country. ‘We can never ever support it.’

He said Rohingyas are being force to escape from their own country leaving their homesteads and all assets in the face of mass killing and repression.

Mosharraf said the government is not taking any effective step to resolve Rohingya crisis as it has failed to realise people’s pulse.

He said their party wants the government to force Myanmar through strong diplomacy to take back Rohingyas by establishing their all rights.

The BNP leader urged the government to give shelter to Rohingyas for a temporary period and make strong diplomatic efforts so that the Myanmar authorities take them back.

Rohingyas are now frantically trying to enter Bangladesh in the face of crackdown by Myanmar’s security forces as Rohingya insurgents reportedly attacked dozens of police posts and an army bases there. The ensuing violence and the security forces’ onslaughts have killed over 1,000 people and triggered the exodus of Rohingyas to Bangladesh.
