Dhaka: M Nurul Islam alias Anu, private secretary to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman died of cardiac arrest at Dhaka hospital on Wednesday morning. He was 78.

According to a family source Anu breathed his last at about 7:00am at capital’s United Hospital.

Anu, also founding president of USA chapter of Awami League, is survived by his two sons, one brother, one sister, grandsons and grand-daughters, a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

The namaj-e-janaza of late Nurul Islam will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asr prayers. Later he will be laid to eternal rest at Azimpur graveyard, the source added.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at the death of M Nurul Islam Anu and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
