Dhaka: BNP standing committee member MK Anwar died at his residence in the early hours of Tuesday. He was at 84.

MK Anwar, who is also a former minister, had been suffering from diabetics, heart disease, and various old age complications for since last two years.

BNP Chairperson’s media wing official Shamsuddin Didar told NTV Online, the senior BNP leader breathed his last at about 1:20am at his New Elephant road residence.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock and profound sympathy to the bereaved family at the death of the party’s standing committee member.

Born in 1933 at Comilla, MK Anwar spent more than three decades serving as a high official of Pakistan and Bangladesh government.

Later, he retired from the government service in 1990 after discharging the duty of the cabinet secretary. He joined politics in 1991. MK Anwar was actively involved with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

MK Anwar is a former member of parliament. He was elected MP from Comillas Homna constituency for several times. He served as the former Minister of Agriculture. He is a former Vice-President of BNP.
