BNP will stage rallies and processions across the country, including all thanas in the capital, on Wednesday in protest against the growing price hike of rice, pulse, onions and other essentials.

The programmes are also meant for registering the party’s protest against the increase in power and gas tariffs, and holding tax of the city corporations and municipalities, reports the UNB.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programmes at an emergency press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Monday.

As part of the programmes, he said their all district and city units, except Rangpur city one, will hold either rallies or take out processions at their convenient time on Wednesday.

Besides, Rizvi said all the BNP thana units in the capital will also hold similar programmes the same day.

He alleged that police arrested their Dhaka city south unit leader and ex-Dhaka city corporation ward commissioner Alataf Hossain and Jubo Dal leader Jahurul Islam Sabuj in the morning as part of the government’s repressive acts. ‘I, on behalf of BNP, strongly protest and condemn the arrest and demand their immediate release.’
