Jessore: Additional engineer of Roads and Highways Division Mehedi Hasan said on Wednesday that it has decided to renovate and expand the Benapole- Jessore Highway, immortalized in the Allen Ginsberg poem September on Jessore Road, keeping century-old trees erected on its both sides on Wednesday.
Correcting the prior project outline, the Roads and Highways Division will start working to build up a new project of TK 27crore to expand the road within a fortnight, following the experience of India and replicating it over here, said Mehedi.
The decision came after some environmental/advocacy groups become vocal against the decision to cut down the trees.
Earlier, ECNEC had passed a project at a cost of TK 329 crore that would expand the road by felling trees.
