PM to visit Sylhet Tuesday

Sylhet: Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina will visit Sylhet on Tuesday from where she is likely to start campaign for next national polls and elections to five city corporations.

She will visit the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal  and Hazrat Shahporan  around 11:00am.

The prime minister is set to inaugurate 38 development projects, including five of the Sylhet City Corporation, around 2:40pm.

Of those, she will open 20 projects and lay foundation stones of the rest 18 projects, said Rahat Anwar, deputy commissioner of Sylhet.

As chief guest, the Prime Minister will address a public rally, arranged by district Awami League, at Sylhet Alia Madrasa Ground around 3:00pm.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will also attend the rally.

Security measures have been boosted to ensure foolproof protection centring the visit of the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, two watchtowers at PM’s rally venue and around 100 check posts have been set up in the city, said police, adding that security of the rally venue will be monitored constantly from the watchtowers.

Mohammad Abdul Wahab, additional deputy commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), said fourtier security measures have been taken up to avert any attempt of subversive act.

As per tour schedule, she will leave for Dhaka in the evening.
