Bangladesh issues alert for Maldives embassy
Dhaka: Bangladesh Embassy in Male, the Maldives issued a press note to alert the Bangladeshis there as Maldives President Abdulla Yameen declared a state of emergency in the country on Monday.
Bangladesh embassy urged its nationals to stay at the residences and avoid going outside their houses unless it’s necessary.
Considering the present crisis of Maldives, the press release alerts Bangladeshis not to step out from their residences without compulsion, not to spend time outside in their leisure times and not to attend any kind of meeting, procession and rallies.
The embassy provides a hotline number for the Bangladeshis in case of any kind of unwelcomed situations. The expatriates are asked to dial +9603310859 for assistance.
Maldives President Abdulla Yameen declared a 15-day state of emergency and ordered security forces into the Supreme Court and arrested a former president, in moves as political crisis worsens in the Indian Ocean island nation.
Last week, the Supreme Court ordered the release of a group of opposition politicians. It also ruled that the 2015 trial of former President Mohamed Nasheed, who is living in exile, had been unconstitutional, reports the BBC.
It was followed by a pledge from the country's police commissioner that he would enforce the court's ruling. In response, the government of President Adulla Yameen sacked him.
The army has now been ordered to resist any attempt to impeach or remove President Yameen.
