Arson case against Khaleda Zia: Comilla court issues show cause

Comilla: A court here issued a show cause notice to the Dhaka jail authorities as BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia failed to appear before it on Wednesday, in a case filed over the 2015 arson attack on a bus in Chouddagram upazila that left eight people dead.
The Dhaka Jail authorities were asked to reply the show cause within seven days, reports the UNB.
Comilla Metropolitan Magistrate Court-5 Judge Kazi Arafat passed the order and set April 8 to hear Khaleda’s bail plea in the case.
Earlier on March 12, showing BNP chairperson arrested in the case Comilla court asked police to produce her before it on March 28.
Meanwhile, the former prime minister had been in old central jail in Nazimuddin Road since February 8 in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case as a Dhaka court had sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment after conviction.
According to the case statement, Khaleda was charged with instigating arson attack on a bus that had killed at least eight people and injured 20 others at Jagmohanpur of Chouddagram on February 3, 2015 during the movement of BNP-led alliance.
