CuU asst proctor ‘asks’ student to withdraw sexual-harassment allegation

Cumilla: A female Cumilla University student, who lodged a sexual-harassment complaint against a university teacher, has allegedly been pressurised by an assistant proctor of the university to withdraw the allegation.
The victim submitted a written complaint to university registrar Dr M Abu Taher on Monday against Nur Mohammad Raju, assistant proctor of the university and a lecturer of Bangla department.
As per the complaint, Raju along with his ‘goons’ went to the business establishment of one of victim’s relatives and asked for withdrawing the allegation brought against GM Azmal Kawsar, assistant professor of Management Studies department.
He also harassed her sending his men to her house, the victim alleged.
However, Raju denied the allegation, saying he went to the business establishment of the victim’s relative to say sorry on behalf of his colleague. “I only requested for withdrawing the allegation as action has already been taken against the accused teacher.”
Earlier, on April 11, GM Azmal Kawsar, also the provost of Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall, was suspended for sexually harassing two female students, including the victim.
On April 9, the two female students submitted a written allegation against the assistant professor of the Management Studies department. They accused him of sending them obscene photos and messages through Facebook.
