Dhaka: Students of Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday brought out a protest rally on campus following an overnight threat allegedly made by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders to kill two leaders of the ongoing quota reform movement.

They alleged that two BCL leaders – central committee vice-president Imtiaz Bulbul Bappi and Mohsin Hall unit general secretary Mehedi Hasan Sanni – along with their followers threatened to kill two conveners – Nurul Haque Nur and Mohammad Rashed Khan – of ‘Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Alliance’ which has been vocal in quota reform movement, reports the UNB.

Nurul Haque Nur also residential student of room no-119 at Hazi Mohammad Mohsin Hall claimed ‘A group of 8 to10 BCL men led by Bappi and Sanni came to my room around 2 am, where Rashed was also present.’

‘They threatened to kill us and said they can shot me down any time, but now they can’t do it until the permission comes from higher authority,’ he alleged.

‘I called the university proctor seeking help, but we didn’t get any response from them’ added Nurul.’ They also went to Shahbagh Police Station for lodging a complaint, but police refused to take their General Dairy (GD), he claimed.

‘Now I am feeling unsafe because they can attack me at any time’ he added.

Hasan Al Mamun, another convener of the platform, warned the authorities ‘If any one attack us or harass our leaders or activists for getting involved in quota reform movement, all students of Bangladesh will protest with befitting response.’

‘Never think we are weak. We are keeping silence because we don’t want any conflict with anyone.’ Mamun added.

Participated by over one thousand students, the rally began from central library of DU and ended at the same point after parading different places of the university.
