Sherpur: Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury on Saturday said the anti-narcotic drive is being carried out to protect the youth and future generation of the country.

‘Drug traders - no matter which party they belong to- won’t be spared,’ said the minister while distributing Eid gifts among the poor at Kapasia in Nolitabari upazila. 

The minister said a section of people is criticising the drive saying it is a violation of human rights. ‘But they won’t able to stop it,’ she said.

Matia said, ‘Those who are becoming the victims of drug abuse have also human rights, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is determined to root out drugs from the country.’

She distributed new dresses, saris and cash Tk 500 each among 504 meritorious female students, one sari each among 3,130 poor women, Eid dresses among 680 young males, 10 kg rice among vulnerable groups and dates around 12,00 poor people in the area. 

Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Md Rafiqul Hasan Goni, LGRD Deputy Director ATM Ziaul Islam, Nalitabari Upazila Parishad Chairman Md Mokhlesur Rahman Ripon, Upazila Awami League President Ziaul Islam Master, were, among others, present at the programme.
