Guest lecture on energy and environment held at DU

Department of International Relations of Dhaka University (DU) and Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh at Kolkata in India organised a guest lecture on ‘Energy & Environment — An Indian Perspective’ at DU by Dr Sanat Kumar Saha on 5 July.
Professor Ehsanul Haque, Chairman of IR Department of the University welcomed Dr Saha for agreeing to deliver the lecture on the very important topic, which is of great concern of different countries, what to speak of India and Bangladesh, but also the whole world, particularly the big threat of ‘Climate Change and Global Warming’.
In this regard Paris Climate Agreement, which was signed by 191 countries on 2 October, 2016 is a ground reality.
Dr Saha in his address brought in a diverse perspective on energy and environment issues in a very lucid manner, with special emphasis on current and future scenario of India and Bangladesh as well as globally. He reiterated the need for energy security, energy sustainability, energy efficiency and energy accessibility as well as environmental protection.
Dr Saha highlighted India-Bangladesh co-operation on energy security in Bangladesh on sustainable basis with upcoming power plants for overall socio- economic development of Bangladesh.
Dr Saha made an appeal to the young students and faculty members and other participants, who are going to be the future makers and as a responsible global citizen, to protect the environment through plantation of trees, conservation of energy, use of non-conventional sources of energy and so on to make a beautiful planet.
Dr Saha is currently working as honorary member of West Bengal State Council of Higher Education.
