Dhaka: Information Minister and President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Inu) Hasanul Haq Inu on Saturday demanded proper investigation and justice over the murder of freedom fighter Colonel Abu Taher who was hanged inside the Dhaka Central Jail after a military trial on July 21 in 1976.

Inu alleged the military government of Ziaur Rahman killed Taher, a sector commander of Liberation War and the architect of Sipoy-Janata Mutiny held on November 7 in 1975, after a farcical trial.

Inu came up with the allegation while attending a commemorating meeting marking the 42nd death anniversary of Colonel Abu Taher at JSD office in Bangabandhu Avenue.

‘General Ziaur Rahman is a cold-blooded killer and traitor. He not only killed Colonel Taher and thousands of army members but also humiliated Bangladesh by establishing Razakars and killers of Bangabandhu in politics,’ alleged Inu.

He also demanded to form an investigation committee to probe all the political crimes of Ziaur Rahman as well as to ‘expel’ BNP from the country’s politics.

Abu Taher joined the Bangladeshi liberation forces and was made the commander of sector 11. On his 33rd birthday in 1971, he lost a leg in a battle at Kamalpur.

Taher was awarded ‘Bir Uttam’ title, the highest recognition for gallantry award to living participants in the liberation war and was appointed the adjutant general of the Bangladesh Army following the independence.
