Bogura: A suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Matidhali Pollimangal in Sadar upazila early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Apon, 35, of Manikchawak area in the upazila.

Being tipped-off that a gang of criminals were taking position in the area, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 2 am, said Sanatan Chakrawarty, additional superintendent of Bogura (sadar circle) police.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, criminals opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back.

At one stage, Apon caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.
