Dhaka: Quota movement activists on Tuesday demanded the government to publish the gazette notification on quota reform before the publication of the circular of 40th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination.

Bin Yeamin Mollah, joint convener of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council raised the demand at a press briefing held in front of Dhaka University Central Library around 11 am.

Two hours later, however, Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) published the 40th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) circular seeking applications against 1903 vacant posts.

At the press briefing, quota reform activists said five months have been elapsed since the Prime Minister had made a specific announcement over the quota issue but ‘no steps have been taken yet and the students are anguished over it.’

‘The deadline for issuing gazette notification was August 31 and the Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has asked the students to keep patience but now ten days have passed by and we did not see any activities of the administration in this regard,’ said Yeamin Mollah alleging that ‘False and fabricated cases have been filed against the protesters which is a matter of regret and they were tortured in the name of remand though the central leaders have secured bail following the students’ movement.’

He also urged the government to issue the gazette before the publication of the BCS circular without any delay.

He also demanded withdrawal of all ‘false’ and ‘baseless’ cases against the quota reform activists and leaders, ensure punishment of the attackers and ensure logical reform of quota under the light of five-point demand.
