Dhaka: The High Court (HC) on Monday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why submission of blood test report should not be made compulsory for the brides and grooms before their marriage.

The court also sought explanation as to why dope test of job seekers would not be compulsory before joining any government service, reports the UNB.

A bench of Justice ZBM Hasan and Justice Md Khairul Alam issued the rule.

Cabinet secretary, Law secretary, Health secretary, Inspector General of Police, Directorate General of Health Services, Director General of Narcotics Control Department were asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.

Supreme Court lawyer Syeda Shahin Ara Laile filed a writ petition on July 5 with the HC seeking blood test to detect Thalassemia and drug addiction of brides and grooms before marriage.

Advocate Aklas Uddin Bhuiyan stood for the writ petitioner and Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Raju stood for the state.
