Dhaka: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said BNP has resorted to arson terrorism, anarchy and sabotage as the party has lost public support.

‘Through the planed attack on police at Nayapaltan, BNP has proven that it could not come out of its trait of arson terrorism,’ he told a press conference at the AL president’s Dhanmondi political office here, reports the BSS.

Quader said BNP has taken the path of terrorism fearing their defeat in a free, fair and neutral national election.

AL Organising Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Central Working Committee Member Anwar Hossain and Dhaka City South Awami League General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad were present on the occasion.

The AL general secretary said party nominations for the December 30 polls will be finalized within two-three days while seat sharing with the alliance partners will be done in a week.

Quader said party nominations will be given to those able to win in the polls. ‘We will not take BNP candidates as weak contestants,’ he added.

The AL general secretary said they have taken all-out preparations for the 11th parliamentary election.

Awami League President and Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina is enjoying a huge popularity in all national and international surveys and studies, he added.

Quader said now the Awami League, the organization of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, remains significantly ahead in terms of popularity in different criteria in the surveys.

‘We studied five to six survey reports in the last three-four days. The surveys assessed the popularity of not only Awami League but also other competitor political parties,’ he added.

Quader said AL now remains ahead in those indicators where it stayed behind in five to six months ago.

The AL general secretary expressed his hope that the AL, which led the 1971 Liberation War, will win in the general election to be held in December, the month of victory in the Liberation War.

‘The Awami League-led non communal forces imbued with Liberation War spirit are on the one side in the race while the communal forces led by BNP have joined hands,’ he added.

Quader said the history of BNP is full of incidents of corruption and terrorism and there is no visible positive works which could be supportive for the party to seek votes to the people.

‘Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina’s bold leadership is our biggest asset. Awami League will win in the election capitalizing on her leadership and our development activities in the last 10 years,’ he added.

Quader said AL will take part in the election as a modern, smart and disciplined political party.

Replying to a question, he said it could not be so that BNP leaders and workers would not face legal actions after setting police vehicles on fire and carrying out attacks on police.

‘After the announcement of the election schedule, how dare they carry out such violent acts?’ he questioned.
