Dhaka: The Election Commission on Monday asked the authorities concerned to monitor the social media round-the-clock to check the spread of propaganda and rumours over the forthcoming national election.

The Commission gave the directives at a meeting with representatives of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) and top officials of mobile phone operators in the Nirbachan Bhaban, reports the UNB.

‘We’ve asked the authorities concerned to monitor propaganda and rumours on the social media round-the-clock,’ EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed told reporters after the meeting in the afternoon.

He said the Commission also asked them to take legal actions as per the existing laws against those will spread propaganda and rumours through social media.
