‘If you can butter up—you are doing great’

A post on Facebook by State Minister for Telecom Tarana Halim has become talk of the netizens on Thursday.
The state minister on Thursday made a post on her official Facebook page. She wrote: (translated) ‘Thinking of sharing some lessons on my page from now on that I have learnt through experience in my life. If you can flatter—you are doing great; if you tell the truth—you are finished. (Collected). However, I will tell the truth.’
In a surprise move, some heavyweight ministers and senior Awami League leaders were dropped from Sheikh Hasina’s new Cabinet earlier in January this year. Former state minister of information Tarana Halim was one of them.
Earlier, the former state minister did not get nomination in the 11th parliament elections held on 30 December last year. Later, she did not vie for MP election in reserved women seats.

Halim was elected Member of Parliament of one of the 45 reserved women seats.
In January 2018, she was appointed as the State Minister of Information. Earlier, she served as the state minister of the Post and Telecommunications Division under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology of the Government of Bangladesh since July 2014.
