Chuadanga: Two workers were killed and three others injured as a chunk of mud collapsed on them at a brick field in Damurhuda upazila on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Hannan, 45, son of late Kala Chand Mandal of Keshabpur village and Babu Mandal, 50, son of late Lal Mandal of Bastopur village in the upazila, reports the UNB.

Quoting witnesses, Sukumar Biswas, officer-in-charge of Damurhuda Model Police Station, said a big chunk of mud collapsed on some 50 workers around 8:30am at Sheikh Bricks, leaving the duo dead on the spot and three others injured.

The injured were admitted to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, he said adding that the brickfield owner went into hiding after the incident.

Meanwhile, a three-member probe committee led by the upazila nirbahi officer has been formed to investigate the incident, said Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner Gopal Chandra Das.

The committee has also been asked to submit the report within three working days, he added.
