Daily mobile recharge capped at Tk 500

Dhaka: Prepaid mobile users will not be able to recharge more than Tk 500 a day, according to a directive sent to the country’s all mobile operators on Tuesday by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
‘A letter has been sent to all mobile phone operators. They’ve been asked to implement the directive as soon as possible,’ BTRC Chairman Shahjahan Mahmood said, reports UNB.
According to BTRC data, there are 13.31 crore mobile phone subscribers in the country with majority of them using prepaid SIMs.
Contacted, secretary general of Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) TI Nurul Kabir said the prepaid customers will face problem following the BTRC directive.
He said many subscribers avail themselves of internet packages of over Tk 500.
‘So, they may need to recharge over Tk 500 in one day. They’ll face problem if the BTRC directive is implemented.’
Some 5.15 crore people are currently using the internet over mobile phone.
The AMTOB secretary general urged the BTRC to reconsider the decision.
