Facebook Messenger down: Messaging app goes offline for users and is even deleting conversations
Another Facebook app is down just hours after the company’s main social network went dark for Android users.
The latest casualty is Messenger, Facebook’s messaging platform, home to 1.3billion users – and it seems the crash is wiping out some users’ conversation history.
‘#Facebook #Messenger just ate everything. All of my conversations are gone. The @messenger app glitched and now this is all I see,’ tweeted @stardustfemme with a screenshot that showed a blank Messenger home screen devoid of chats and contacts, reports .thesun.co.uk.
Down Detector, a website that tracks global outages, shows over 122 reports of problems with Facebook Messenger in the past hour.
It seems the service has been having issues since 7.45am UK time.
Major outage hotspots are in the UK and Europe, according to Down Detector.
‘Can’t see any of my chats and keeps saying something went wrong’ reads a comment from one user.
‘Messenger wouldn’t respond so I uninstalled then reinstalled and now it won’t let me log in keeps loading then saying logging out and telling me to check my connection,’ writes another person.
We’ve reached out to Facebook and will update this article with its response.
The Google Play Store shows that Messenger received a fresh update on July 11, the same time Facebook got one too.
New features include the ability to see your call history and missed calls in one place.
